Yes, it’s my first time enjoying a cup of gelato. And all I can say is I don’t think I’m going back to eating plain ice cream very soon. Thanks to Gelatissimo Cafe at Trinoma!
If you’re not yet familiar what gelato is, it’s actually Italy’s variant of ice cream. It’s mostly made up of the same ingredients as other frozen dairy desserts, but the difference is how it’s frozen. Also, gelato is known to have less butterfat and sugar contents. I guess that’s why it became an instant hit here in the Philippines.
Kien and I desperately wanted to try gelato after reading "Eat, Pray, Love". Since we were scheduled to watch The Social Network at Trinoma, we decided to head out to Gelatissimo.
As soon as we came inside Gelatissimo’s branch, we were warmly welcomed by their staff behind the counter. They started offering us FREE tastes of almost all gelato flavors that we can see. Yes, FREE and ALL of their gelato flavors, you can taste to help you decide which ones you would love to order. If you fancy any of the flavors, just ask their friendly staff if you could have a taste and they’ll be more than willing to help you with a small spoonful to taste. Trust me, it didn’t make it any easier for us because we wanted to order everything! *LOL*
After a couple of minutes trying to decide on what we’ll order, we ended up with ordering a cup each of 3 flavors of gelato at Php 190 each. Imagine our shock when we saw how large the servings were! Hahaha. We thought at that moment that it was a wrong decision ordering 3 flavors each. Looking back now, we got to try 6 gelato flavors from Gelatissimo and they were all good. So, it was all worth it.
By the way, I loved where Gelatissimo branch in Trinoma is located. You can enjoy a cup of your favorite gelato flavors inside their store. I love the red colors on their walls and how comfy their whole place is. It complemented how warm the staff were to us. If you prefer to finish up your gelato outside, they have chairs and tables, too. It’s not too warm outside because they’re not surrounded by metal buildings and their store is located at the top floor of Trinoma, surrounded by pools of water and greeneries.
I also love how they showcase the flavors on their gelato shelves. They all look oh-so enticing, which makes deciding on what to order oh-so hard as well.
Here’s my 3-flavor cup of gelato from Gelatissimo. I picked these flavors: Panna Cotta, Forest Berries, and the nutty American Chocolate. I love all of them, most especially the first two. The Forest Berries had lots of bits of strawberries and blueberries. It might be a li’l sour for some. Kien said it tasted like blood (but yummy), but for me, it was perfect! I love everything, even the nuts in the American Chocolate (I usually hate nuts mixed in my food).
Kien ordered his all-time favorite Vanilla, Rhum and Raisins, and Berry Yoghurt (yes, we love berries!). I had a taste of all the flavors he picked and I love how luscious the Vanilla was. Oh my. I didn’t completely like the Rhum and Raisins, but it was still good. Here are our 2 cups of gelato. The one on the right is my bro’s.
You’ve got a lot of choices at Gelatissimo when it comes to flavor. A few of the ones we tried: Choc Chip, Coconut, Coffee, Hazelnut, Macadamia and Caramel, Pistachio, Tiramisu, Wild Cherry, Green Tea, Lime, Mango, and Passionfruit. Yep, we tasted all of that! I think we tasted other flavors, but those are just the flavors I can remember. *LOL* Can you blame us?! They were handing us free tastes of all the flavors that we had to stop them, literally! Oh, I love Gelatissimo!
I managed to finish my gigantic servings of gelato while we roamed Trinoma, waiting for the last full show of The Social Network. Kien didn’t finish his whole cup ’cause he was so full, plus, he’s on a diet. I tried to help, but I was already full from my cup of gelato.
By the way, Gelatissimo Cafe is also offering sundaes, takehome packs (prices: Php 420 & Php 720), shakes, Bambino cones (bite-sized mini cones hand-filled with gelato, then, dipped in colored chocolate coating), and even coffee (affogato-style or plain with cream).
The prices, for me, are also fair considering the servings. The giant servings we got were only for Php 190 and can be shared by 2 to 3 persons. I don’t know how I finished mine, honestly. ^_^
I am now seriously craving for another cup of gelato from Gelatissimo Cafe. They made my first gelato experience something truly memorable. I love them! So, I’m giving them 5 smilies because of how accommodating their staff were to us and the other customers who were coming in and out of their store when we were there, the flavors of their gelato, the prices, the ambiance inside their store, and everything else in between. I really enjoyed my gelato and I’m looking forward to bringing our parents along with us next time!
