We have posted a few weeks ago about J.CO Donuts and Coffee finally opening a store here in the Philippines. Their opening day was moved to March 15th and their first store will be at The Strip at SM Megamall. I know you’re all excited about this and you’re dying to finally taste these goodies, but wait ’til you see what’s inside these boxes:

Okay, you can actually see what’s inside from the photo above
, but here’s a better look:

They’re J.Pops, bite-sized versions of the J.CO donuts we featured weeks back. They’re so cute!!

After a VERY disappointing dinner at a diner somewhere, we quickly decided that we needed something to make up for the lousy meal we just had. Since my BFF Tina and our nanay haven’t been to Parvati yet, there we went.

We posted about Parvati before. It’s indeed a one stop dessert shop and they help home-based bakers market their products without worrying about opening their own stores. When we went there the first time, the place only had a few tables. When we returned, more seats are available to diners.
They also had a few additional items on their menu, particularly their beverages. We were excited to try different goodies so we ended up with four (4) dessert variations.
Let’s start off with what we had for drinks. Ken ordered the Hot White Chocolate (Php 100). It’s made of Belgian white chocolate buttons and is very rich. Not really suitable with desserts, but we still enjoyed this.

My nanay and I both ordered their Honey Apple Iced Tea (Php 90). Nothing really surprising. It was refreshing and subtly sweet nonetheless (I ended up with 2 photos to use up the full width of our content space – nag-explain?!
).

Tina ordered the mouth-watering Cafe Mocha with Caramel Candied Cashews (Php 100). It had vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, whipped cream and candied cashews – a killer combination! Ken regretted not ordering this instead of his hot cup of white choco.

There are many things I’m currently enjoying about Ken being in culinary school. First, of course, is everything he bakes or cooks at home so he can practice or prepare for an upcoming test or lab activity in school. I especially loved these cream puffs and éclairs he made for our birthday celebration weeks ago. Everyone loved them!

Secondly is shopping with him for ingredients and tools he’ll need at home. One of our favorite stores now is Chocolate Lover in P. Tuazon in Cubao, Quezon City.

If you’ve passed through their area in QC, we bet you saw the eye-catching design of their building. I mean, seriously. How can you miss this castle?

Every year, Christmas is one holiday I look forward to. It’s not because of the gifts I get, but I’ve observed that people are extremely nicer come Christmas season. People who usually don’t greet or generally don’t like each other, you’ll see smiling and hugging as they say, “Merry Christmas” on the eve of the holiday. And it’s also one of the days that I see more people are determined to give gifts to their friends and loved ones.
I love giving gifts more than receiving, honestly. But, I’m not always the best gift-giver ‘cause I always get confused on what to buy for someone. And though most people would think giving pastries or baked goodies during Christmas is not as personal or special, well, how about if they were baked right off our kitchen, eh?
And so, Ken and I are thinking of baking pastries to give as gifts to our dearest friends. Okay, he’ll be doing most of the preparations, I’ll just be watching him and taking photos (and will be the financier, like always
). We’re thinking truffles, just like the ones we gave away at an event (pictured below), cakes or brownies – anything that we know the recipients can keep for days. What do you think?

We were supposed to buy a Kitchen Aid as part of our plan, but we had second thoughts about it since we realized we need a bigger oven instead. For now, though, we’re still in the planning stage to figure out how many we’ll need.
