A New Year, New Blog Design and a Series of GIVEAWAYS!

Certified Foodies' second anniversary - new design, new year, giveaways!

2nd anniversaryThis month of May, our food blog, Certified Foodies, is celebrating its SECOND anniversary. And we can’t be more excited about the future. :)

Back in 2010, after months of conceptualizing on how we can make our food blog unique, we threw in the towel and decided that our passion and love for food will get our message across – that food should be enjoyed and shouldn’t just be for nourishment.

The past two years have been CRAZY… in a VERY good way. Here are some of our achievements so far:

We are so thankful for all the blessings and recognition we’ve received through this food blog. Who would’ve thought that the food (mis)adventures of 2 siblings would take us this far? :D

Thank you to all our fellow foodies and friends who have visited, left a comment or even lurked on our food blog to look at our food photos and articles. It means so much to us that you all find the time to drop by here, “like” our posts on Facebook or tweet with us. :)

New Design

Because of everything that has happened in the past 2 years, we believe this blog deserved a major makeover. After almost 2 years of slow loading time and unorganized, less personalized theme…

…this food blog is now sporting a brand spanking new theme, designed to our own personal tastes.

The theme was mainly designed by me (Mhel), but all the design elements and additional contents were from a collaboration of both  our ideas (me and Ken). We wanted a less cluttered look, almost minimalistic design, to bring more focus on the photos.

Now, the blog loads much faster after we moved to a new server. Even with the slideshow above and gallery below, feedback has been positive about our blog’s loading time (If you have violent reactions to this, let us know at the comments section!).

The 10th Philippine Food Expo 2011 – Get Free Entrance Tickets Now from LocalRoam.ph

The 10th Philippine Food Expo 2011 will be happening on February 24 to 27th, at the World Trade Center here in Manila. I am looking forward to this foodie event after I missed last year’s First Philippine Ice Cream and Chocolate Show.

The Philippine Food Expo showcases the best home-grown fresh and processed products from all over the Philippines. There’ll also be competitions in the expo, including a Culinary showdown and Food Styling and Photography competition. I am pretty excited to witness the latter as I’m still learning more about food photography.

If you’re planning on coming to the expo, for a limited time, you can get FREE Entrance tickets to the 10th Philippine Food Expo 2011. All you have to do is sign up to LocalRoam.ph and purchase the deal. Only 3 tickets per person.

I’m hoping there’ll also be an expo for those who are planning on opening up a small restaurant or coffee / bake shop. I’d love to know more about interior design like should we go for pergo flooring, all tiles or marble. And food preparation tools and machines we need.

Anyway, I MIGHT go to the expo, probably on the day of the Food Styling and Photography competition. So, if you’re going, let me know and let’s meet up at the 10th Philippine Food Expo 2011! :)

I Love Food Photography!

If you don’t know yet, I am the official photographer of this food blog. I was using a Sony Cybershot DSC-T2 (8-megapixel) before and now, I’m taking photos with our Canon PowerShot SD1000 (7.1-megapixel). I don’t own a DSLR. Not yet at least. But, I believe I’ve managed to take decent photos and I’m continuously improving in every photo I take.

When I first started taking photos of food, I wasn’t even aware of the macro features of the digital camera I was using, or even what it can do. Now, I’ve played around with it and have found what angles and style work for me and suit my taste.

I love photography, but I guess I’m more in love with taking photos of food. It’s mainly because I believe everyone can appreciate a good food photo, don’t you agree?

That’s why I would be investing on a good camera. But, first on my list is a point-and-shoot. It’s really hard to lug around a DSLR so I’m prioritizing my purchase of a point-and-shoot. I mean, I can do post-processing anyway on my photos so even when I only use an iPhone 4 (which has an auto-focus and macro feature too!), I can still publish deliciously-looking photos.

Stay tuned for my tips and lessons I’ve learned as I self-train myself into taking professional-looking food photos. I’ll be posting them on my geek blog. I know it’ll be a great help to those who are also new to food photography.

For the Love of Photography…
