Kenny Rogers Roasters Hainanese Chicken & Frozen Yoghurt – Healthy Choices for Healthy Lives

Last week, April 19th, I was invited to join Kenny Rogers Roasters’ Bloggers Night at their Katipunan branch. They were launching their new products and introducing us to their brand ambassadors.

I’ve been an avid Kenny Rogers Roasters diner for years. In fact, one of our homemade recipes here on our food blog is our own version of their Cheese and Garlic Potato side dish which I love, love, love! I also super enjoy the flavors of their roasted chicken and recently, their Burger Steak, which I still have to blog about.

Since my bro and I are starting to eat healthier, it was just the right timing for us to be invited to this event. The slogan of Kenny Rogers Roasters campaign to healthier eating is so timely. I agree with them. If you want to live a healthy life, it’s all about healthy CHOICES.

They also want to change the perception that if you want to be healthy, you need to sacrifice a lot when it comes to food. Kenny Rogers Roasters wants us to know that there are healthy options that are delicious, too.

In line with this campaign, we were introduced that night to their latest offering, Hainanese Chicken. It’s a very popular dish in Singapore where the chicken is poached, paired with Hainanese rice and complemented with 3 different sauces. Kenny Rogers changed it up a bit with their own twist, adding some Pinoy flavor to it by topping the rice with garlic chips, which I know a lot of us Filipinos love.

That’s my plate of Hainanese Chicken. For  Php 185.00, you get a quarter (1/4) chicken, Hainanese rice, chicken broth/soup, and the 3 sauces. I enjoyed this dish, especially with the combination of the chili and sweet soy sauces mixed with the very tender chicken.

Where’s my Salt and Pepper?!

0 Comments | Posted by on Sep 29 2010

Most of the restaurants I dine in have condiments, especially salt and pepper, available on the table. I like it that I’m given an option in case I feel that their cooking is a little bland for my taste.

There are still other restaurants though that don’t have any condiments on their table. I’ve read a couple of arguments about this, but, if I’m paying, I should be given the option of salt and pepper.

Salt and Pepper should be on restaurants tables - CertifiedFoodies.com
Every restaurant should have salt and pepper (and other condiments) on their tables.

Some say, most especially chefs, that their food is really flavorful so we won’t need salt and pepper anymore. But, see, that’s the problem. Not everyone has the same palate or sense of taste. We taste food differently because we have our own "interpretations" or feelings. So, I say having salt and pepper on the table is a sign of respect towards customers.

I know, some may argue that customers come to YOUR restaurant to have a taste of YOUR food or YOUR cooking. And I completely understand that. But, if I paid good money for MY order or MY food that you prepared, I should at least be given that courtesy or option to add salt and/or pepper when I need to, right?

The Search for the Hotter Hot Sauce – Foodie Quest

0 Comments | Posted by on Jun 15 2010

Red Chili Peppers - Certified FoodiesHot sauces may not be the best choice to mix with your food right now since the weather is still warm. But, it certainly can boost your appetite and that’s why I LOVE it!

Lately, I’ve been mixing my food with hot sauces. I don’t know why, but, I guess I just love the feeling I get whenever I’m eating spicy food. You know, just the right spice or hotness that can make me sweat and make me want to eat more. I know, we’re trying to lose weight so the eating more may not be a good part, but, I’ve read that eating spicy food can speed up your metabolism. So, it’s all good, I guess (lolz).

Here at home, we actually have three (3) brands of hot sauces – UFC Hot Sauce, Mother’s Best Hot Sauce and Jufran’s Red Hot Chili Sauce.UFC, Mother's Best, Jufran's Hot Sauce - Certified FoodiesI’m actually disappointed with UFC and Mother’s Best hot sauces. Considering that the latter is claiming they’re the World’s Hottest, as you can see on the label on their bottle, it’s really quite a disappointment. I mean, they’re not hot at all, even to Mhel’s standards (she doesn’t like spicy food). Heck, I almost consumed half of their bottles, as you can see, but, I didn’t feel any spice at all. Seriously!

Jufran’s Red Hot Chili Sauce is okay for me when it comes to the hotness. But, when it comes to the overall taste/flavor, my favorite is Pizza Hut’s Hot Sauce. You know, the ones they include when you have pizza delivered from them or when you dine at their restaurant.

So, here’s where I need your help…

Do you know of any brand that is as hot and

flavorful as Pizza Hut’s hot sauce?

Please, please, please. Let me know!
