Marios Sunday Lunch Buffet

A few months ago, we went up to Baguio with a couple of fellow foodie friends and bloggers to celebrate Mario’s Restaurant‘s 40th year. Throughout our 2-day, 2-night stay, we enjoyed meals in their restaurant in Upper Session Road (watch out for part 2 of our feature). The whole Baguio trip concluded with a sumptuous meal at Mario’s Sunday Lunch Buffet.

Mario's Baguio, located at the Upper Session Road

Since this was an eat-all-you-can buffet, I initially thought that the dishes they’re going to serve won’t be the same as the ones on their regular menu. Most of the buffets we know only serve mediocre food compared to the items on their ala carte menu, but I was pleasantly surprised to know that Mario’s Sunday Lunch Buffet spread will give you a chance to enjoy their delicious regular menu dishes eat-all-you-can style.

Since I usually take a round of photos first before I eat, I initially planned on going to each buffet table armed with my camera. But, when I passed by the meat table, I couldn’t help, but pause my photo-taking. πŸ˜€

Cochinillo - roasted suckling pig

I went straight to get a serving of the Cochinillo, a suckling pig roasted to perfection! They serve this with lechon sauce, but the crispy, thick skin and the meat of the pig are flavorful enough on their own. I had to control myself and not get another serving of this. However, I couldn’t resist to take some from Ken’s plate when he went back for seconds. πŸ˜€

Roast Sirloin of Beef

They also have a big slab of Roast Sirloin of Beef, sliced as you order and then served with Brandied Peppercorn sauce.

I skipped on some of the dishes, including the Nutty Strawberry Salad even though the fresh greens were very tempting, and the Sopa de Caldillo, which I think was beef stew soup. Having seen the rest of the buffet, I knew I need more space for the meaty part of the meal. πŸ˜€

Mario's Nutty Strawberry Salad and Roast Chicken with Lemon and Garlic

One of the first dishes I tried was the Roasted Chicken with lemon and garlic – very tasty and the chicken was juicy.

Then, there’s Linguine with Lamb and Peppers and Cajun Fish Fillet with Tropical Salsa. I had the fish fillet the night before, and I loved every bit of flavor of the dish. The linguine was nicely cooked too.

The other dishes were Penne with Creamy Pesto and Gratinated Vegetable Tian, a mix of onions, zucchini and carrots. πŸ™‚

Another savory option was the Beef and Mushroom Medley.

To pair with the main dishes, there were various choices: Steamed Pandan Rice, Clams and Cilantro Rice and Rosemary Marble Potatoes.

They also serve Paella Valenciana in their Sunday buffet, a dish we absolutely loved when we first tasted it. This can stand alone and be eaten as your main dish as it’s complete with saffron rice, paprika, peppers, crabs, shrimps, pork, chicken and sausage.

And, of course, you just couldn’t miss the Oysters Rockefeller and Baked Mussels.

On to the desserts table. They have a chocolate fountain with fruits, marshmallows and breadsticks.

And my favorite, their Mango Panna Cotta.

It was definitely one hearty lunch. Mario’s Sunday Buffet is a perfect setting for a get-together with friends and family. The buffet is set at Php 675 per person at their Baguio branch, and Php 695 at Mario’s in Tomas Morato – very fair prices considering the dishes they offer in their buffet spread.

Watch out for our next feature on Mario’s as we write about the other dishes on their menu that you must try. They serve straightforward delicious food at a cozy environment in both of their branches, which is why they are one of our favorite restaurants to-date. πŸ™‚
