Tupperware Speedy Chopper : Making Home-Cooked Meals Less of a Hassle

I love cooking. Ever since I was 10 years old, I’ve loved staying in the kitchen, whether it’s to enjoy a meal or prepare something for myself or my family and friends. But, because of my very hectic schedules online and offline, I’ve left all the cooking to my bro Ken and our nanay. Thank goodness I found out about the all-new Tupperware Speedy Chopper.

Tupperware Speedy Chopper

Over a week ago, Ken and I were invited by Tupperware to take a Kitchen Discovery Class at Center for Culinary Arts Oceana at SM Mall of Asia. Of course, we gladly accepted mainly because Tupperware is a brand we believe in. We have Tupperware dinnerware and containers that have been with us for over 2 decades now. They make reliable and durable products that are made to last. 🙂

So, when we learned that they’re launching a new kitchen tool that should help prepping be less time-consuming, we knew we had to get our hands on it to try how it works.

Melody Yap, the brand manager of Tupperware Philippines, first showed us how it works. It’s so easy to use. Put in the ingredients you want to grind or chop finely in the container. Then, close it with the very sharp blades and start pulling on the cord to spin the three (3) blades inside. These blades, they claim, can equal 288 knife strokes in just 15 seconds. So we were all very excited to give it a try.

Tupperware enrolled us in the Kitchen Discovery Class in CCA and it started with 3 renowned female chefs (Yayyy! Girl power!) showing us how great the Speedy Chopper is in making your life easier in the kitchen.  They were all very delightful so we enjoyed watching them prepare these delicious dishes, Oh, and they used other Tupperware kitchen tools during the whole demo. 🙂

Chef Melissa Sison using the Tupperware Speedy Chopper

First up was Chef Melissa Sison, the Academic Programs Manager of CCA and owner of My Little Kitchen (among her other restos). She prepared a pesto pasta buffet. She used the Tupperware Speedy Chopper to grind the pine nuts for the pesto recipe.

The chopper indeed finely ground the pine nuts and the basil for the pesto sauce. More good news about it is Chef Sison didn’t use electricity. I remember Ken’s Pesto Pasta. I was watching him prepare it and he used our food processor to chop the ingredients. Now, he doesn’t have to use our bulky machine to do just that. 🙂

which was so yummy, by the way, so I recommend you try his recipe.

Chef Melissa then prepared a salad for us. When she asked what dressing we wanted, everyone was in agreement – Caesar dressing. One of the procedures in making it is chopping garlic, which is something I honestly don’t look forward to whenever I cook. The smell of garlic stays on my fingers for hours even after rigorous washing. 😐 With the Speedy Chopper, I can chop them up without the long-lasting garlicky smell on my hands. 🙂

Next up was Chef Gigi Angkaw, one of the celebrity chefs I know who’s the Culinary Directress of Century Tuna and works as a Technical Service Manager for San Miguel Corporation. She prepared Cajun Cream Dory with Tropical Fruit Salsa and Spanish Rice (which we were supposed to replicate in the kitchen later so I was paying attention) first.

She used the chopper to prepare the Tropical Fruit Salsa for the Dory. Not only can it chop or grind ingredients, the Speedy Chopper can also be used to blend or properly mix / combine ingredients, just like what Chef Melissa mentioned. You can also feel if you’re getting the right texture or consistency by gauging the amount of pressure you have to apply to pull on the cord. If you need to put in more effort, that means you’re going to get a chunkier consistency. She used the Quick Chef for blending the other ingredients, too.

She also used the Tupperware Jel Ring for her presentation of the dish, a proof of the many uses of these Tupperware products. Here’s the plating:

After the Dory, Chef Gigi prepared a mocktail Mojito. She chopped the mint leaves using the Speedy Chopper. I’m preparing Mojito on our upcoming birthday celebration so this should come in handy. 🙂

The last cooking demo was from Chef Carol Lavin. She specializes in Baking & Pastry Arts, which made Ken more interested in watching her demo. She owns a baking and pastry shop named Le Cafaye Wedding and Celebration Cakes. She showed us how to prepare Choco Mallows Cake.

Chef Carol Lavin used Tupperware Heat N Serve to melt butter in the microwave

She introduced to us the Tupperware Heat N Serve. It’s a multi-purpose container that you can use to bake, freeze, or chill food. There’s this silicon valve on top that you need to pull up when you use it in the microwave oven. We actually got one of this as a gift from them and it’s very versatile indeed. Chef Carol even used it to melt the butter in the microwave. 🙂

Chef Carol expressed how much she loves Tupperware products. They’re not just durable, but also stain-resistant. You don’t have to worry about unwanted smell sticking to the container on your next use. And I couldn’t agree more, basing it on our experience with their products. 🙂

After all the demos, all the participants were grouped into 4. Ken and I were in the same team, of course, along with Joan Lim of Food Alphabet (a food blog mainly maintained by her hubby Stonibert) and Crystal from Tupperware. Here’s a photo of us in the CCA kitchen wearing our hair nets.

A photo of our team in the CCA Oceana kitchen - ugh, the hair nets!

We were tasked to prepare 3 things – the Dory with Tropical Salsa and Spanish rice, the Mojito, and the Choco Mallows Cake – using all the equipment and tools we could find in the kitchen, including, of course, Tupperware products.

We had Tupperware tools and plates displayed outside the kitchen, including their knives (Yes, they also have Tupperware knives!) and we need to take what we need for our preparation. Not only can you use Tupperware to store your food or chop your ingredients, they can even be used for presentations. Just look at these beauties.

Anyway, off we cooked. We had a couple of CCA students helping us around the kitchen. Our group delegated the preparations of the components of the dishes we were preparing and I chose to cook the Spanish Rice.

Here’s a photo of our dishes. We decided to plate them this way ‘cause we’re all creative like that (love your own, dear).. 😀

The judges were Chefs Melissa, Gigi and Carol, and executives from Tupperware. We didn’t win, but we were very happy with our experience. 🙂

We got to eat what we prepared along with some dishes prepared by the chefs and the CCA students.

Each of us got a Tupperware Speedy Chopper, which I’m TOTALLY happy about. This makes me want to cook more often. I’m planning on preparing a full-on Mexican meal very soon. 🙂

Oh, and of course, we got our Kitchen Discovery Class completion certificate that were awarded to us by Perry Mogar, President and managing director of Tupperware Brands Philippines. Thanks CCA!

The Tupperware Speedy Chopper might be compact, but it’s an energy- and time-saving tool I know you’d enjoy using to prepare home-cooked meals at home. And since Christmas is just around the corner, you can buy them as gifts for your friends. From the catalog I got, it’s priced at Php 1,499. May sound a bit pricey, I know, but considering it’s from Tupperware and how convenient it is to have in the kitchen, I say it’s worth it. 🙂

    1. Geejay: Here are the branches of Tupperware that you can contact:
      http://www.tupperwarebrands.ph/branch_listing.php?area=MetroManila

I believe they’re only available through a dealer, but if you go to the branch, according to their FAQ (http://www.tupperwarebrands.ph/faq.php), they can also assist you with your purchase. I suggest calling them first though to direct you to a dealer nearest you. I hear they can just go to your home or chosen address if you’re a sure buyer. 🙂

  1. That tool looks really helpful.  I worked in a kitchen for two years and so my knife skills are pretty good.  But, I wouldn’t mind the convenience of this.

    1. I agree! That’s actually what the chefs also mentioned during their demos and while using the Tupperware tools mentioned here, especially the Speedy Chopper. Great for those who have less time to prepare anything at home or even in a bustling kitchen at a restaurant.

  2. I’ve been messaging Tupperware since I saw you blog post so I can buy one and no one replies. Where can I get one? Thanks

    1. Hi, Chichi. Have you tried calling them? The number is below the post – 867-222. From what they told us, it’s only available through Tupperware distributors. They can connect you with the distributor / seller closest to you. 🙂
Let me know if you’re still unsuccessful and I’ll ask them directly.
